Jordan’s Tamatem Games Raises $11M Round Led by PUBG Developer KRAFTON

Leading the MENA mobile games race, Jordan-based publisher Tamatem Games has raised $11 million in a Series B funding round led by South Korean video game developer KFRATON Inc., the masterminds behind globally popular game PUBG. The round also saw participation from Venture Souq, Endeavor Catalyst and existing investors.

With investment in hand, Tamatem is set to spread its wings and tap into more of the Arabic speaking gaming market with sights set on a Saudi expansion. Aiming for a firmer foothold in a country that is home to 70% of its total users, Tamatem will open offices in the Kingdom and invest in local Saudi talent. This is just the first stop on the startup’s expansion endeavors, however, with plans set on entering more markets in the region.

Expansion ambitions aside, the company will also use the funds to diversify its selection of games, bringing more popular titles to the region and even launch a gaming academy to push the industry in new directions.

“Big things are happening for the mobile games industry in the region,” CEO and founder, Hussam Hammo said. “We are reaping the rewards of our past successes and pushing forward with more experience and more grit. We are at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the massive potential of mobile games in MENA and I am always super elevated when more people invest in the industry and the region.”

Since its establishment in 2013, the Jordanian game developer and publisher has taken the regional mobile games industry by storm, racking up 100 million downloads and raising over $17 million in total funding.
