Global Entrepreneurship Week Kicks Off At The Cairo Library

Global Entrepreneurship Week, the world’s largest celebration of entrepreneurship, will kick off in Egypt with an opening ceremony today at Zamalek’s Greater Cairo Library. Supported by the Middle East Council for Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs (MECSBE) and 40 partners, the global trademark initiative will offer more than 150 activities in various governorates of Egypt.

Among the activities, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and its project Decent Jobs for Egypt’s Young People (DJEP) will be organising the Social Entrepreneurship Knowledge Sharing Conference in Gouna, Red Sea Governorate, which will start on November 18th and last for two days.

Launched for the first time in 2008, GEW organises thousands of events and competitions during one week in November, expanding to 160 countries in 2015. From large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings, the initiative aims to connect participants to potential collaborators, mentors and investors, boosting startup ecosystems around the world.

This year, the event will gather about 10 million people worldwide who will take part in this annual celebration, the largest since its inception. The event will feature Startup Open, a global competition to identify and recognise new and promising startups; and the Startup Nations Summit, as startup-savvy policymakers and program leaders will gather in Monterrey, Mexico to explore policy ideas and programs to help accelerate new and young firm formation.

In Egypt, Organising Partners include Talaat Moustafa Group Education (TMG) and Celltek Company, US embassy in Cairo, USAID, Canadian embassy in Cairo, Cairo University, American University in Cairo, German University in Cairo, British University in Cairo, DO Entrepreneurship, GISR Institution for Survey Research, ThinkTank Development Solutions, Awtad, ED Zone, Dakahlia Group, Alashanek ya Balady Association, Businessyard, myCOoffice, The District, M3mal Coworking Space, AUC Venture Lab, VentureScout, AIESEC, Innovety, ICE Cairo, HIRED, ODAR coworking space, Al Maqarr, ENACTUS, S3edy Startup, Evenue, Ashoka Arab World Regional Office, GESR, Ma'an foundation, and ElRe7la.
