Fear & Loathing in Taksim

Large numbers of Turkish riot police have moved in on Taksim Square to crack down on a group of hardcore protestors. Using intimidation tactics and tear gas they fought the smaller numbers of protestors in the square and reached a stale mate with those who refused to back down. This unprecedented attack on protestors has shown the world a whole other side to the once highly praised Erdogan, who on Sunday threatened protestors in a speech saying that “even patience has an end.” He continued, in what creepily resembled speeches by Middle Eastern dictators at the beginning of the Arab Spring, to say that all the protestors do is destroy and challenged them to “face off at the ballot box in six months.”
