Egypt Ranks High on Political Violence Index

While it comes as no suprise that Egypt remains in turbulent times, the latest study by global risk-analytics firm Verisk Maplecroft has confounded fears that the risk of violence due to political tension remains among the highest in the region, and indeed the world. Released this week, the 2015 Political Violence Index highlights the risks posed by terrorist groups including Boko Haram and ISIS, pointing to "mass-casualty attacks by Islamist militant groups" causing spikes in death-tolls in the region.

Though Egypt doesn't rank in the top 10 of the index, the firm highlights both Egypt and Libya as countries to watch "as terrorist incidents have nearly doubled in the past year." Though recent measures designed to keep ISIS' influence outside of our borders, and keep our people inside of our borders, it seems the world isn't quite convinced, as Verisk Maplecroft warns investors of the high-risk states.
