Egypt Announces EGP447.3 Billion Budget for 691 Green Projects
The Ministry of Planning are looking to inject EGP447.3 Billion in 691 green projects, EGP 36.7 billion of which will be used in 2020/21.
It might be hard to tell just by looking outside, but Egypt really does have this big, ongoing mission to reduce the country’s pollution and fossil fuel consumption. It’s just that when it starts at the top, it takes a long time to reach the rest of the country. Looking to speed up that process and normalize environmentalism among government projects, the Ministry of Planning wrote up a budget of EGP 447.3 billion for 691 green projects, EGP 36.7 billion of which will be used in 2020/21. The budget accounts for approximately 30% of Egypt’s investment projects for the fiscal year, but will gradually be raised to 100% in the next three years - meaning that we haven’t seen the most of Egypt’s green efforts just yet.
Egypt has been making consistent progress in the environmental sector for some time, having built Benban, one the world’s largest solar parks, and a mega water treatment plant, Al Mahsama, which was just awarded the Best World Water Recycling and Use Project for 2020.
