Applications Are Now Open for ‘Google For Startups’ Accelerator Africa

The seventh Google for Startups Accelerator Africa has opened applications for startups from 17 African countries for its upcoming three-month virtual accelerator program. The program, designed to help startups scale their businesses across the continent, will run from March through May 2022.

Over three months, successful early-growth stage startups will have a chance to develop supported by Google’s extensive network of experts and mentors, equity-free support, intensive virtual training boot camps and a wealth of cutting-edge technology.

The Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program kicked off in 2017 and has since supported 82 startups hailing from 17 African countries. Collectively, these startups have raised more than USD 117 million in funding, creating more than 2,800 jobs across the continent. 

Google has continually proven to be a supporter of startups in Africa. Earlier this year, the tech giant pledged USD six million in grants in support of the Black Founders Fund Africa and the Tony Elemelu Foundation to help develop Africa’s startup ecosystem.

“We are honoured to have yet another opportunity to connect with African innovators and empower them through the seventh class of Google for Startups Accelerator Africa. We know that, as with previous classes, we are on the cusp of uncovering more outstanding technology-led solutions to some of the continent’s most pressing challenges, developed by Africans themselves,” said Andy Volk, who leads Google’s developer and startup ecosystem efforts in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Applications are open until January 14, 2022 for startups at the seed to Series A stages from Algeria, Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
