57 Heliopolis Cafés Shut Down in a Raid by Egyptian Police

Following the tragic murder of Mahmoud Bayoumy in Keif Café after the Egypt vs. Cameroon soccer game, Cairo’s Police Chief, Khaled Abd El-Aal, raided and shut down 57 cafés in Heliopolis, Nasr City, and El-Nozha, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The cafés are being accused of operating without the correct licenses as well as breaching their designated liability parameters. Owners and employees of the cafés are also being investigated.

Since the raid, social media posts have emerged claiming that some cafés had the correct licenses, including Blaze, but were unlawfully damaged and destroyed under the assumption that their licenses was forged. Officially, it remains unclear whether this holds truth.
