Upper Egyptian Adaptation of Hamlet, ‘El Seera El Holameya’ Returns to Cairo Opera House

Arguably one of the most universal stories told about revenge, loyalty, reality and corruption, Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ is no stranger to being adapted to accommodate different times and cultures. On August 11th and 12th, a local adaptation of the play will return to the Cairo Opera House’s open-air theatre entitled ‘El Seera El Holameya’, which will see the Egyptian Al-Tal’iea Theatre troupe adapt the timeless tale in an Upper Egyptian context.

Directed by Mohamed El-Saghier and starring Mohamed Ibrahim, Raafat Said, Mahmoud El-Masry, Hassan Abdallah among others, the play will – as with other cultural events as of late – maintain social distancing protocol.
