The Grand Egyptian Museum is Finally Slated for Completion in June

In the making for nearly two decades and soon to be the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization, the Grand Egyptian Museum has finally received a series of final dates, signalling an end to the construction of this long-awaited tourist destination.

By June 30th, all construction and engineering works within the museum itself are scheduled to be finalised. Not only that, but the area surrounding the museum, and all sides overlooking the Ring Road, roads leading to the museum, and nearby hotel facilities’ construction are scheduled for completion as well. 

By September 30th, all the interior finishes, the commercial area, and the museum displays of antiquities inside the museum are expected to be completed. These will serve as the finishing touches before the museum’s inauguration in late 2022.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is located on a 480,000-square-metre plot of land approximately two kilometres from the Giza pyramid complex. Its design was determined during a competition in 2002, where the organisers received 1,557 submissions from 82 countries, making it the world's second-largest architectural contest of its kind.
