New Royal Vehicles Museum to Open in Zamalek This September

Look hard enough and you’ll find that, aside from the usual suspects, Egypt is home to a number of specialist, niche and occasionally quite weird museums. While Royal Vehicles isn’t a field that quite reaches the heights of peculiarity of say the privately owned torture museum in Manial, it does offer a unique perspective on Egypt’s royal history.

Located on Zamalek’s 26^th of July Street, the museum is set to house a total of 78 vehicles, 22 of which were gifts from European countries, according to Egyptian Streets. One of the highlight vehicles is one gifted to Jhedive Ismail by Napolean III and Queen Eugenie at the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, for example – just one of a collection of rare vehicles belonging to the Khedive, as well as vehicles belonging to Mohamed Ali.

Head of the Projects Sector at the Ministry of Antiquities, Waed Abul Ela, has revealed that the museum’s development process is underway and it should be open to the public no later than September.
