Massive Mural By Brazilian Art Duo Celebrates Grand Egyptian Museum

In the shadow of the Great Pyramids of Giza, a concrete wall stands on the side of the Cairo-Alexandria Highway. Behind it, you could see heavy machinery, plunging into the earth to construct new lines for the ever-expanding Cairo Metro. As you move down you will be able to see the grey concrete shift suddenly into blasts of shapes and colour, as murals celebrating the nation's cultural heritage overtake them. Painted by Brazilian art duo Acidum Project, the 100 square metre mural will greet thousands of visitors as they drive past to gaze upon the Giza Pyramids or enter the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Composed of artists Robezio Marqs and Tereza Dequinta, Acidum Project led a team to craft this mural around the clock over five days, inspired in equal measures by Egyptian traditions, Brazilian styles, and the tireless energy of the city in which they worked

The mural was commissioned by the Egyptian Embassy in Brazil as part of GEMPACT, also known as the Grand Egyptian Museum Public Art Cultural Tourism project proposed by creative agency DUCO. GEMPACT hopes to use public art and urban murals to extend the Grand Egyptian Museum's message of welcome beyond its own walls.
