Meet Laura El-Tantawy, the British-Egyptian Photographer Reborn in Egypt's Revolution

Born in Worcestershire, England to Egyptian to Egyptian parents, Laura El-Tantawy's nomadic, eye-opening childhood saw her growing up between the UK, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the US, before eventually landing back in Cairo again in 2005, when she began discovering sides of the city and its people she had yet . In 2011, her work documenting the 25 January Revolution gained her worldwide attention and her 2015 project In the Shadow of the Pyramids was featured on the shortlist of the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Prize. Her work has most recently also won her the Le Prix Roger 2018 and Codice Mia Portfolio Prize.

Laura El-Tantawy is in Cairo as part of Cairo Photo Week, which has taken over Downtown with a series of exhibitions, talks, photography walks and more. The first edition of Cairo Photo Week ends today, November 30th. Stay up-to-date with more cultural events on the CairoScene Calendar.
