First Museum Dedicated to Egyptian Cinema Coming Soon

A new museum dedicated to the history of Egyptian cinema will be unveiled soon, according to Dr. Khaled Abdel Jalil, head of artistic works and advisor to the Ministry of Culture.

The museum will include rare collectibles from vintage cinema and veteran artists, and a storehouse with a very large collection of collectibles, including cameras and rare devices.

Incidentally, in December 2020, the Ministry of Culture purchased the lifelong collection of cinema collector Makram Salama. The famed archive includes hundreds of posters of Egyptian films, 500 documentaries, 10,000 slides, an 8-mm family film collection, 50 display machines, spare parts for said display machines, about 400 recorded films and plays produced by a production company that no longer exists, a library of Arabic and English books, around one thousand issues of Al-Mosawwar magazine, issues of ‘Akher Sa’aa’ and ‘Al Fan’ magazines, and an assortment of newspapers from the 70s. Will this collection make an appearance in the museum? We certainly think it might - we’d love to get a glimpse in-person.

The exact location and date of the museum has not been announced yet.
