Egyptian Photographer Uses Pokémon To Make People Care About Syrian War

Maybe when you see a Syrian as a Pokemon character, they will matter. That’s what incisive artist Omar Khairy set out to prove with his “Pokemon goes to Syria” series, where he places heart-wrenching balloons flying up on a dead child’s hand, new buildings against the backdrop of a wrecked town, and hearts on empty hospital beds where a man has just passed away. Not the first to use Pokemon to highlight the massive humanitarian crisis, Khairy's photos began circulating today on Facebook as he urged social media users to let people know about the human catastrophe taking over the Levantine country. “Syria is suffering every day and you [are] still here searching for that Pokemon,” the artist posted.
