Manal Khaled’s ‘Trapped’ will have its world premiere at ‘South by Southwest’, one of the most prestigious art festivals in the United States.
Egyptian filmmaker Manal Khaled’s ’Trapped’ will have its world premiere at the South by Southwest Festival, where it was selected for the global category. Its selection makes it the only Arab film participating this year, and the first Egyptian production to participate in the festival in a decade.
‘Trapped’ follows a group of women from various social backgrounds, all of whom struggle to find freedom in their own way. Shooting for the film began in 2011, but was paused for years as Khaled had trouble securing a production company.
The South by Southwest Festival was founded in 1987, and features an amalgamation of music shows, film screenings, conferences, and networking events. It’s considered one of the most prestigious arts festivals in the US.
