Egyptian Director Ahmad Al Morsy Wins Two International Awards

Esteemed DOP Ahmad Al Morsy been able to put 22 such awards on his shelf over the past ten years, and most recently, he'll be able to add two more from the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS).

At this point, it might be an understatement to say that Director of Photography (DOP) Ahmad Al Morsy has earned himself a bit of a reputation. Most people would recognise his name on the credits of massive blockbusters like 'The Blue Elephant' (2014), 'Diamond Dust' (2018), or 'The Blue Elephant: Dark Whispers' (2019) which earned him the Arabian Cinema Award for Best Cinematography earlier this year, in August 2020. That wasn't his first award, of course, and it certainly hasn't been his last. He's been able to put 22 such awards on his shelf over the past ten years, and most recently, he'll be able to add two more from the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS).

Since joining in 2017, Ahmad Al Morsy has been getting awards from the ACS every year. In 2019, he received a Golden Award for the documentary 'Points of Convergence', and a Silver Award for his DOP work on 'Diamond Dust'. But that was last year. This year, the ACS deemed it more than appropriate to recognise his work with a couple more prizes: a Silver Award of John Bowring for Breaks and Promos, and a Golden Award for the video 'Same Great Feelings' (aka Experience Egypt) which he directed for the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

If you missed like the two or three times we talked about those videos then um, you should follow this one platform called #CairoScene, we heard it's pretty cool? But if you have seen it, then you'll remember its overview of Egypt, the camera sweeping through scenes of workers spraying museums, airports and public transport with disinfectants, preparing to safely welcome smiling tourists into the country, greeted by cheerful hosts, musicians and Arabian horse dancers in a dramatic display of beautiful tourist spots and festivities. And you'll know he totally earned it.
