Cairo International Women's Film Festival: Six Days of Female Cinematic Genius
The 9th edition of Cairo International Women's Film Festival is bringing some of the world's finest cinematic works and filmmakers to Cairo this Saturday.
Women took to cinema to tell their stories and portray the world through their eyes as soon as all the tinseltown execs could handle it. Egyptian women are no strangers to the trials and tribulations of being a woman in a male dominated industry, and the great deal of courage and tenaciousness it takes to survive in one. Cairo International Women's Film Festival was created to pay homage to women in film, in recognition of their continuous efforts to pave the way for future generations of female filmmakers.
The 9th edition of the Cairo International Women’s Film Festival is set to kick off this Saturday, February 27th, with Naomi Kawase’s critically acclaimed romance Still the Water. Screenings of a wide variety of films from around the world will take place in Falaki Theatre, Artistic Creativity Centre, and Goethe Institute, and Q&As with filmmakers will also be held.
CIWFF, founded in 2008 by its current director Amal Ramsis, introduces the best films created by women from around the world that meet the highest cinematic standards. Almost all languages, cultures, and subject matters are represented in every year’s selection. It is considered the first of its kind in the Arab-speaking world, and is gaining wide recognition internationally as well.
Hurry up and get your fix of female cinematic genius because the festival wraps up on March 3rd.
