Ancient Medical Manuscript by Hippocrates Has Just Been Discovered in Egypt

The manuscript will be placed among the other most important texts of the world.

As monks scoured through the monastery of St. Catherine in Sinai while conducting restorations, they uncovered an ancient manuscript with text believed to be from the 6th century. According to archaeologists, the manuscript contains medical recipes and remedial herbs from Hippocrates who is known to be the most famous doctor of all time and the Father of Western Medicine.

A researcher at the Early Manuscripts Electronic Library, Michael Phelps, told Al Sharq Al Awsat that The manuscript, which contains three medical texts, will be enlisted among the oldest and the most important manuscripts in the world.”

The St. Catherine Monastery is considered to be the world’s oldest running library filled with all sorts of prehistoric manuscripts. It was mostly used by religious scholars and hermits in the 3rd and 4th century. Since its construction in the 6th century, monks have inhabited the place continuing their old traditions and practices.
